#77 | Nibiru v2.4.0 Is Live: DELEGATECALL Support + Major EVM Upgrades | Release Notes

· 3 min read

Nibiru v2.4.0 adds DELEGATECALL support for precompiles and full compatibility with Ethereum’s latest hard forks.

The v2.4.0 upgrade enables Wasm-native apps like Sai Perps to expose full EVM interfaces, allowing them to function as composable building blocks within the Nibiru EVM environment. This is thanks to new support for DELEGATECALL inside precompiles, which enables advanced routing patterns and modular contract execution.

Nibiru v2.4.0 also brings Nibiru’s EVM module in line with go-ethereum v1.14.13, adding support for key Ethereum hard forks like London, Paris, and Shanghai. These improvements expand what developers can build on Nibiru, enhance security, and make future Ethereum upgrades easier to adopt.

🔼 Ethereum Compatibility Upgrades (go-ethereum v1.14.13)

The EVM module has been upgraded to track upstream go-ethereum changes through v1.14.13, introducing support for major Ethereum hard forks:

  • London - Implements EIP-1559, replacing the legacy gas auction model with a base fee mechanism.
  • Paris (The Merge) - Full execution layer compatibility post-merge, aligning with Ethereum’s proof-of-stake consensus.
  • Shanghai - Adds support for EIP-4895, enabling validator withdrawals and related functionality.
  • Altair, Bellatrix, Arrow Glacier, Gray Glacier - Internal network upgrades and difficulty bomb delays; primarily included for version parity and forward compatibility.

These updates improve tooling support, align with widely used Ethereum infrastructure, and lay the groundwork for smoother integration of future upgrades.

🔌 DELEGATECALL Support Unlocks New Capabilities in Precompiles

DELEGATECALL is now supported within Nibiru’s precompiled contracts. This enables:

  • EVM Interfaces for Multi VM Apps – Needed for proxy-based execution. EVM apps and tokens now have all of the tools needed to couple tightly with apps developed in Wasm.
  • Modular Contract Architecture – Enables stateful cross-contract logic while preserving msg.sender and msg.value. This means full compatibility with common Ethereum proxy patterns (e.g., OpenZeppelin, Diamond Standard) are now possible for multi VM apps on Nibiru.

With DELEGATECALL, developers can use modern Solidity patterns and unlock adapter layers that connect Wasm-native logic to the Nibiru EVM runtime.

What's Next: Expanding EVM Support for Wasm-Integrated Apps

This upgrade sets the stage for more seamless integration between Wasm and EVM layers on Nibiru. Apps like Sai, Eris Protocol, and Astrovault can now offer full EVM interfaces while maintaining their core logic in Wasm, creating new possibilities for dual-VM development on Nibiru.
